James Breiner is a consultant on digital media with a specialty in entrepreneurial journalism. Currently, he is visiting professor in the School of Communication at the Universidad de Navarra. He teaches classes on Economics, Media Economics, and Multimedia Communication.
Before entering the academic world, Breiner specialized in economic journalism. He was editorial director of Business First of Columbus and managing director of Baltimore Business Journal. His journalistic work won awards from the Associated Press and the Society of Professional Journalists.
As a fellow of the International Center for Journalists, in 2008 he launched the first center for digital journalism in Latin America, at Universidad de Guadalajara, Mexico. In the following years, he performed consulting work for organizations such as Poynter Institute, the Gabriel García Márquez Foundation, and American City Business Journals, among others. He was co-director of the master’s degree program in Global Business Journalism at Tsinghua University, in China, and then guest professor at the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, Mexico.
He is part of the Executive Board of SembraMedia, a non-profit organization with headquarters in Los Angeles (USA) dedicated to promoting entrepreneurship in digital native media in Latin America. Breiner has a master’s degree in English literature from the University of Connecticut and a Bachelor’s degree from the College of Wooster, in Ohio.
