He holds a PhD in Communication from the Universidad de Navarra with an undergraduate degree in Information Sciences from the Universidad de Piura. He worked as a journalist in the El Comercio newspaper in Lima in the Research Unit and Political, Editorial, Metro, National and Sports sections. Moreover, he has worked as a professor in Press Writing since 1995 in the Piura and Navarra universities, and currently in the Universidad San Jorge, in Zaragoza, where he is Head of the Journalism Degree Programme.

His research area focuses on the Theory of Journalistic Styles and in relations between Journalism and Literature. He has published several scientific articles regarding the  agreements and misunderstandings between journalists and litterateurs, the classification of journalism in literary and rhetoric perspectives of 19th century Spain, reality and fiction in the configuration of journalism as a professional activity in Spain, human interest as an articulating element in narrative genres of literary journalism, the literary photojournalism in Colombia, and other similar areas. He is a member of the Sociedad Española de Periodística (SEP).

He heads two research groups: “Journalism as a creative space in Aragón, from paper to the Internet 2.0: Narrative strategies and techniques in journalism”, acknowledged by the Government of Aragón, and “Journalism as a creative space: origens, development and perspectives in the Hispanic scope”, promoted by the USJ School of Communication. He collaborates with newspapers and magazines in Peru and Spain. As a professor, he teaches the subjects Press Writing and Specialized Journalism II (Investigative Journalism).

He has obtained the Top Short Story Award of the National Institute of Culture of Peru (1992), the OXY Award (1992) and was amongst the ten finalists in the world of the Media Save Art Award, 4th Edition 2001, Series Category: International Press Competition for Articles dealing with the Preservation of Cultural Heritage.
