<meta name="DC.Description" lang="en" content=“Revista Latina de Comunicación Social, RLCS, is a scientific journal edited at the University of La Laguna, ULL (Tenerife, Canary Islands) in the Laboratory of Information Technologies and New Analysis of Communication, LATINA according to its initials in Spanish, founded in 1987 by Dr. José Manuel de-Pablos-Coello, under the protection of special doctorate programmes for Latin American professors. The journal publishes under the main summary almost exclusively research papers written following the formula IMR&DC+B: introduction, methodology, results and discussion plus conclusion, with a updated bibliography: at least 70% of the bibliographic entries must be from the past 10 years and half of them from scientific journals in Spanish and English languages. Reviewers make a double blind peer examination. This is a collective and inter-university project, including many professors and researchers from almost all Spanish and Portuguese speaking countries. The journal is the following databases: EBSCO (USA), DOAJ (Lund University, Sweden), Redalyc (Mexico), Dialnet (Spain); and is indexed by the CINDOC-CSIC in DICE, ISOC, RESH, Office of Latin American Education, OEI according to its initials in Spanish; Dulcinea, etc. In Spain the journal is a reference in the Directory of Index of Spanish Periodicals of Social and Communication Sciences, IN-RECS, of the University of Granada, UGR. RLCS occupies the first position in the cumulative index for the periods 2003-2007; 2004-2008, 2005-2009 and the years 2009 and 2008.”/>

Reports: The article examines online communication and the influence of parental mediation based on a survey to a group of teenagers with ADHD and another group of normal teenagers. The article studies the risks and consequences of Internet communication, which is not only revolutionising the world of communicative interaction but also the world of social relations. The article contextualises very well the use of the Internet by young people and the particularities of teens with ADHD, who are considered as vulnerable group in the use of new technologies. The article addresses online communication from a necessary perspective because teenagers are a strategic group whose habits of online consumption may condition the future relationships between the media and their audiences. This investigation is remarkable because it was carried out rigorously, is properly based on the review of previous research, and uses instruments of analysis that are part of a robust methodology. Apart from deepening into the relations and influences between the Internet and its users, it opens new avenues of research on the communication between parents and children regarding the use of the Internet. The bibliography is appropriate and updated. For all this reasons, I recommend the publication of the article, without any changes.-- Miguel Túñez, Ph.D. - University of Santiago de Compostela."/>

<meta name="DC.contributor.referee II" content="Reports on the article: The article presents the results of a descriptive and comparative investigation, based on a sample of 232 teens from the Basque Country, who answered the Television Viewing Habits Questionnaire CH-TV 0.2 to identify the similarities and differences between teens with ADHD and normal teens, regarding: 1) Internet consumption; 2) the purpose of Internet use; 3) the perceived styles of parental Internet mediation.
The questionnaire also aimed to identify the possible relations between the Internet consumption profile and the perceived styles of parental mediation of adolescents with ADHD and normal adolescents. The study also presents a theoretical review that includes perspectives from several authors on adolescents’ use of the Internet, parental mediation and ADHD, in order to analyse the data collected. The data are certainly valuable and open up other fields of research, which could include qualitative research instruments to further explore the main conclusion: adolescents with and without ADHD use the Internet more as a medium of communication and entertainment than as a medium to assist homework or education, which is the interest or belief of the parents. The study redoubles its value because it compares Internet consumption between normal adolescents and adolescents with ADHD.-- Karina Valarezo-González, Ph.D. - Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja, Ecuador."/>

<meta name="DC.description.abstract" content="Abstract: The youth of today live in the midst of a technological revolution, particularly in the field of communications (chat rooms, mobile telephones, Messenger, etc.). In many parts of Spain, the Internet has overtaken television, not only as a source of leisure and recreation among teenagers, but also as a force for socialization. Adolescents suffering from Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) have specific characteristics which may make them more vulnerable when using new technologies. Consequently, it is important to research the way in which these teenagers use the Internet. This study aimed to identify, through the administration of the CH-TV 0.2 Television Viewing Habits Questionnaire, the possible differences which may occur between teenagers with ADHD and the normal adolescent population, as regards Internet use, purpose of this use and parental mediation. The results indicate differences in Internet use profiles between adolescents with ADHD and the normal adolescent population. Contrary to our hypothesis, the former use the Internet less than the latter. Furthermore, despite the fact that the principal aim in using the Internet was communication for both sample groups, significant differences were detected. In relation to parental mediation, teenagers with ADHD reported a higher degree of instructive and restrictive mediation by parents."/>
